With all the talk about the Keto diet, I’m sure you’ve heard of it. Bloggers, YouTubers and your everyday friends are trying this new diet and are finding success and great results.

I love a good diet with a great success story, trust me I’ve tried my own and they’ve worked (see Paleo) , but the Keto diet is one that I KNOW will be a struggle for me if I ever wanted to try.

Here’s why.

There are certain things that you absolutely cannot eat on this diet. These include bread, pasta, donuts, candy and some fruits.

Here’s what I like.

French Fries

I love french fries. If I could, I would marry french fries okay? I eat them at least once a week. I’m actually on the hunt for the perfect french fry. Right now, Five Guys is winning, but then again I think I should actually go out more and try french fries from other restaurants and states.

If I were to get on the Keto diet, I would have to give up french fries because potatoes are on the list of foods you shouldn’t eat. First no.

Pasta

When I saw pasta on the list, I promise you I yelled WHAT! I don’t eat pasta nearly as often as I used to, but when I want it….I want it. The other day, I was craving some sort of pasta dish with spinach and shrimp. And you know what? I went right home after work and got to it. It was delicious by the way. My Pinterest foodie board is about 60 percent pasta dishes.

Second no.

Candy

I enjoy an occasional Snickers bar, Almond Joy and Hershey’s Bar with Almonds. I’m not a candy addict in any way, shape or form, but sometimes it’s good to have that rush of sugar.

Third no.

Fruit

I was in shock when I saw this on the list, so I decided to do more research behind this. I found that a lot of the fruit that I love and often eat has carbs in it and that’s why it’s frowned upon for this diet.

Sometimes I eat fruit as an alternative to eating candy. I can curb my sugar craving and feel refreshed at the same time.

Fourth no.

And finally…Wine

Listen honey, this was the FINAL straw. I love my wine and nobody can take me away from wine. When I saw this on the list, I definitely knew that it was not meant to be.

  1. First, my favorite French fry is that of Chik-Fil-A. Yummy!
    Second, I’ve definitely heard of Keto but, like you, I probably will never give it a try. Not because of the food restrictions but because I know once i’m no longer doing this diet…all the weight will come right back. For me, it’s not a lifestyle choice I’m willing to make long term–and that’s what I want to do–more of a lifestyle choice. For me, all things are ok in moderation.

    1. You know I have yet to have Chick-Fil-A, I’m really behind. When I get there though, I’ll make sure to let you know how I feel about the fries.
      Yes, I’ve also heard once you stop the weight just comes back with a vengeance. My favorite “diet” was Paleo and I’m getting back to that starting this month. It was good for me when I was in college, so let’s see how it goes now. I’ll definitely write a post about it.

  2. On your last post about the monthly challenge I said that was a good idea. I think I’ll try to do a Keto diet as my challenge. Boom! February challenge made.
